It is clear that Leuven is a region
of talent and human capital. More than 10 percent of
the region’s
population is employed in the knowledge economy and
over a quarter of all Flemish researchers work in and
around Leuven.
Leuven possesses an enormous concentration
of human capital. As such, it is a centre of education
and developing talent, in which the K.U.Leuven plays
a major role. With more than 100 different programmes,
it is by far the largest university in Belgium, providing
excellent education day after day. Next to the university,
two other institutions of higher education play an active
role in the training of talent: the Catholic Higher
Education School Leuven (KHL) and the Technological Higher
Education School Group T. In addition to this, IMEC
educates students and young researchers in all ICT-related
domains. The various institutes also offer a wide range
of continued education programmes. What’s more,
learning in Leuven takes on an increasingly international
dimension, with the number of foreign students rising
every year.
Lifelong learning is not a hollow expression in a
knowledge town like Leuven.
- Over 36,000 Leuven students
- More than 7,000
diplomas per year
- Over 2,000 foreign students,
of more than 50 different nationalities
- Approximately
1,500 K.U.Leuven professors
- More than
6,000 researchers in the Leuven knowledge
region
